Can someone tell me what the differences are between launching individual X
windows applications (xterm, xclock, etc.) and the whole desktop (e.g. the
gdm login screen and session)? Is it related to XDMCP mode (passive vs
broadcast)?

In any event, I am running Redhat Linux 7.3 and Exceed 7.0. The Exceed
crashes (on both w2k and XP) whenever I tried to launch a full desktop. I
tried exceed -q, or XDMCP update list, or xinitrc: all failed in the same
fashion: the login in window shows up, after I typing in correct uid/pwd,
the gdm (Gnome) welcome windows shows up briefly before a Dr. Watson pops up
and shutdown Exceed.

I turned the log to the fullest but nothing particularly suspecious there
(other than some massive font mismatch/not found and CJK input not
supported). I've also read the Dr. Watson log, it said it failed at
function: NtWaitForSingleObject/access error: which does not make any sense
to me.

As I said, I am running gdm on Redhat 7.3. Exceed 7.0 on W2K and XP. I
configured the gdm exactly the way Tom Chao suggested in his omnipresent
Linux XDMCP HOWTO article. More than once. I have also added a [XDMCPD]
section under win.ini based on a article in this website. Still nothing
changed.

I am sure I must have missed something quite simple or even trivial ... but
what is it? Any help? Please !!!!
