Hi Philip,
There are some poorly documented command line parameters that you can use. If
you are using Win9X you can add them to the target properties that point to the
Exceed application. If you are using Win2K you will have to enable
compatibility mode then set the shortcut to run in Win98 compatibility mode.
The command line parameters override whatever you've set in Xconfig.
The parameters are:
-h hostname
-d x (where x is the display number)
-m y (where y is the mode you want to run in: query, indirect, passive)
For example, in Win98 create a shortcut to Exceed and call it "Exceed host1".
Open the properties for the shortcut and in the target field put:
"C:\Program Files\Exceed\7.10\Exceed\exceed.exe" -m query -h
ost1.mynet.com -d 1
When you click on the "Exceed host1" shortcut it will open up a session on
display 1 to host1.
Create another shortcut and call it "Exceed host2". For its target use:
"C:\Program Files\Exceed\7.10\Exceed\exceed.exe" -m query -h
ost2.mynet.com -d 2
Create another shortcut and call it "Exceed choose host". For its target use:
"C:\Program Files\Exceed\7.10\Exceed\exceed.exe" -m indirect -h
ost1.mynet.com -d 3
Create another shortcut and call it "Exceed Passive". For its target use:
"C:\Program Files\Exceed\7.10\Exceed\exceed.exe" -m passive -d 0
Obviously, you will need to replace the hostnames with ones that you want to
access.
"Exceed host1" will open up a direct session to host1 using display 1:0.0
"Exceed host2" will open up a direct session to host2 using display 2:0.0
"Exceed choose host" will open up a chooser screen on display 3:0.0 using host1
to provide a list of hosts to choose from
"Exceed passive" will open up a passive session on display 0:0.0
Get it?
I have run at least 5 simultaneous session this way and it works just fine.
Best to configure "Single Window" in the Xconfig setup. Win2K Pro won't handle
these parameters directly in the target field. You first must enable
compatibility mode (see www.microsoft.com) and then after creating the shortcut
you can select the compatibility mode in the shortcut properties.
Hope that helps.
Steve

Subject: [EXCEEDUSERS] one host,multiple clients
I'd like to simultaneously open sessions from my one PC on two different
UNIX machines.
How do I do so?
Thanks
Philip
