This query isn't specifically about Exceed though Exceedis being used as the
X Server in question.

Due to an update to legacy equipment some of which is out of our control we
have the need to route X messages via a 3rd machine i.e. The machine
upon which the X Client runs is connected via an FDDI network to a SPARC
machine. This SPARC machine used to run an X Server and therefore
the display of the X Client was straightforward. In the new system the SPARC
is not connected to a display, this is now done by a PC which is running
Exceed. There are a number of X Client applications that run on the SPARC
and are successfully displayed on the PC screens. However the problem is
how to display the X Client from the remote machine on the PC screens, this
machine cannot be connected directly to the PC nor can the IP address of the

destination machine be changed. Therefore the X Messages are still sent to
the SPARC.

In order to route these messages onto the PC I have written a simple socket
application that receives messages from both the client and the server and
sends them on. This appears to work for a number of small applications such
as xterm etc. However the applications that are actually in use involve
multiple
windows and when it is launched it crashes.

I have a couple of questions.

1. Is there anything fundamentally wrong with what I am trying to do with
the routing of X messages in this way?
2. Does anyone know if there is a commercial application or freeware or
shareware that already can do this?

Any comments, suggestions etc will be gratefully received.
