Exceed works between Win200/Unix but nolonger between NT4/UNIX

hi everyone
Has anyone run into this problem. At work i have a windows2000
machine sitting next to my NT4 machine.
I had been bringing up CDE via Exceed on the NT workstation.
Recently after having brought CDE up under
windows2000 i discovered that i would show the first screen on my
NT4 box and stop and then disappear in
about 5 minutes.
i deleted all my .dt* files my .Xauthory and my .TTauthority.
CDE/Exceed still would not come up under NT4.
any help would be greatfully appreciated.
