As root, run smit.

Double click on "Print Spooling"

Double click on "Add a Print Queue"

Select "Remote Printer Attached to Remote Host"

Select "Standard Processing"

Enter the name of the printer in "Name of Queue".

Enter the host name of the PC in the "Hostname of the Remote Server"
Sometimes the host may have a hard time resolving the PC's host name. In this case, you can specify the PC's ip address.

If you are running Windows 95, NT 3.51 or NT 4.0 enter one of the following for the "Name of Queue on Remote Printer":

Name of Queue on Remote Printer Definition
dos-printername The file is printed without modification
dosff-printername The file is printed without modification and a form feed is appended to the job if there is not already on present.
unix-printername Linefeeds are converted to carriage returns and linefeeds.
unixff-printername Linefeeds are converted to carriage returns and linefeeds and a form feed is appended to the job if there is not already one present.
text-printername The output is rendered. This is usually used for printing text files directly to PostScript printers.

where printername is the name of the printer on the PC.

If the user does not know which to use, use text-printername as the default.
For example, if you have a printer on the PC called HP3D, enter unixff-HP3D

Note: A customer has reported that AIX 4.1.4 has a limit on the number of characters in the remote queue name. Thus, if UNIXFF-printername is too long, shortened prefixes (D, DF, U, UF, T) can be used. Also, some systems do not allow a dash "-" in the remote queue name. For these systems, an underscore "_" can be used instead.

If you are running Windows 3.1, or Windows 3.11 enter one of the following for the "Name of Queue on Remote Printer":

dos-lpt1dos-lpt2
dosff-lpt1dosff-lpt2
unix-lpt1unix-lpt2
unixff-lpt1unixff-lpt2
text-lpt1text-lpt2

Where lpt# is the port that the printer is attached to.

Enter BSD for Type of Print spooler on Remote Server.

Enter Description of Printer on Remote Server.

Click on the OK button to enter the queue.

Exit from Smit.
