PROBLEM:

Users will get a pop-up message stating the following after running Exceed 8.0:

"DO YOU WANT TO ALLOW HOST <host name>, IP=x.y.z.w TO ACCESS YOUR X DISPLAY? YES NO"

The server they are connecting to is running a nmap on all IP addresses of the internal/corporate network.

The above message will occur even if Exceed is running in passive or XDMCP mode and if the following options are disabled in Xconfig/Security, Access Control and System Administration.

  • "Allow Clients to Modify Host Access Control List"
  • "Warn Xclient connection attempt"

SOLUTION:

This is resolved in the Exceed.exe patch v8.0.0.7 or higher, as well as the following flag in the win.ini:

[Exceed]
AskUserToAddHost=0

Note: The Exceed.exe patch version 8.0.0.7 can be obtained from Hummingbird Technical Support or by logging in to WebSupport and clicking on the "Patches" link. http://www.hummingbird.com/support/online/support/index.html
