DISCUSSION

Does Hummingbird's FTP support Active transfers through a SOCKS server?

RESOLUTION

Active transfers are NOT supported by SOCKS because they use TCP connections made from a remote machine through the SOCKS server to your local machine. In an "Active Transfer", Hummingbird´s FTP is passive, (In Connection, Settings, Active Transfer is unchecked) and the FTP Server on the host is active. Hummingbird´s FTP does support a mode called "Passive Transfers". To setup a "Passive Transfer", make sure that Active Transfer is checked in Connection, Settings of Hummingbird´s FTP. This option is checked by default and makes Hummingbird´s FTP active and the hosts FTP Server passive, hence this is called a "Passive Transfer". This is where the FTP client program makes a TCP connection to the FTP Server for the Data Channel.
